Bring your pup and sample beer at upcoming Jackson County Animal Shelter event

JACKSON, MI – Enjoy the day with beer and puppies, all while supporting the Jackson County Animal Shelter

The shelter is hosting its inaugural Bark & Brew event from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Jackson County Fairgrounds/Keeley Park, 200 W. Ganson St. The event will raise funds for the operations of the shelter and to hopefully buy some equipment for emergency services, Director Lydia Sattler said.

“The medical costs far outweigh the adoption fees or anything that tries to cover that,” Sattler said. “There also is not emergency or urgent care services in our county, and we are often on the front lines of seeing animals that are injured. We could do so much more if we had some equipment.”

Attendees at the event can sample local beer, enjoy live music and participate in a silent auction. Residents are also strongly encouraged to bring their dogs to the event, Sattler said.

Those who do bring their dogs can enter them in one of the event’s contests, including best dressed, talent show and “A Face Only a Mother Could Love.”

Around 20 different brewers will be in attendance, including Bells Brewery and Founders Brewing Co. Food trucks will also be lined up for the event.

The animal shelter originally planned to host this event in 2020 but couldn’t due to COVID-19. The shelter is excited to be able to do it this year, Sattler said.

“We work super hard here and the community is always super supportive of us,” Sattler said. “We want to celebrate that day and have everyone come together, relax a little bit — where everyone can enjoy something positive and bring their dogs along with us.”

Tickets for the event are on sale now and include a free sampling glass and five free samples. Advance tickets are $25, and tickets at the door the day of will be $35. Tickets can be bought on Eventbrite.com.
