Springfield house fire displaces family of four; firefighters save pets

A house fire Saturday morning in Springfield displaced a family of four, with the residence being deemed unlivable despite surviving the blaze.
The Springfield Fire Department was summoned to the house in the 1800 block of South 16th Street at 7:05 a.m. Saturday when it received report of smoke coming from the 1 1/2-story structure.
When firefighters arrived, they saw black smoke emerging from th windows. Firefighters managed to control the blaze within one hour and rescue the family’s six pets – five cats and one dog.

No one was injured.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
